State of implementation
This initiative has been funded by the European Union Structural Reform Support Programme at the request of the General Directorate of the Coast and the Sea. The mission of these strategies is to guide the decision making to order the actions to be carried out by this Directorate General in the provinces of Cadiz, Malaga and Almeria during the management cycle that comprises the current period until 2045, within the framework of competences for coastal erosion risk management, and maximizing, at the same time, synergies with flood risk management and incorporating adaptation to climate change.
Within the process of elaborating these strategies, a communication plan was prepared that included two events to highlight in terms of public participation:
A first public participation event was held with relevant actors at regional, local level, NGOs and research institutions in January 2020, with the intention of gathering information on the perception of coastal protection management problems that these actors had and taking this perception into account in the integrated diagnosis. We also consulted on their perception of the best practices and lessons learned in terms of coastal management actions already implemented in Andalusia. These contributions were incorporated into a subsequent catalogue of measures.
In April 2021, the second phase of consultations took place, aimed not only at the relevant actors, but also at the general public. This event was launched online and presented the work done so far, asking for contributions about the catalogue of averages that had been proposed and about the selection and prioritization of these measures to gather the observations of the public and take them into consideration for the final drafting of the strategies. The drafting of the strategies was completed at the end of October 2021.
This commitment acquired with the strategies of Cadiz, Malaga and Almeria has continued with the elaboration of the strategy of the Balearic Islands, following a similar scheme of public participation.
