The Ministry of Justice, whose head is the Notary General of the Kingdom, is the department of the General Administration of the State responsible, within the scope of the competences conferred on it by the current legal provisions, for the preparation and execution of the Government’s policy for the development of the legal system, especially in matters of criminal, civil, commercial and procedural law; guarantee the fundamental right to freedom of religion and worship; the policy of organization and support of the Administration of Justice; the rights of grace and titles of nobility and grandeur of Spain; international legal cooperation; as well as with the autonomous communities in coordination with the other competent departments in matters.
The head of the department is the Government ' s channel of communication with the Administration of Justice, the General Council of the Judiciary and the Public Prosecutor ' s Office, through the Attorney-General of the State, as well as with the governing bodies of the autonomous communities in matters within their competence.
Likewise, the Minister of Justice is responsible for relations with the Spanish Data Protection Agency and with the General Councils of Bar Associations, Court Attorneys and the General Council of Social Graduates of Spain.
