In march 2023, Spain presented its candidacy to join the Steering Committee of the Open Government Partnership, and was elected by vote alongside the USA and Kenya as a member of this Committee.
On that milestone, at the 8th Open Government Partnership Summit held in Estonia in September 2023, Spain was also unanimously elected to co-chair the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Steering Committee from 1 October 2023 to 30 September 2025.
The co-chair of the Steering Committee implies:
- Serve as incoming co-chairs from 1 October 2023 to 30 September 2024 and under the incumbent co-chair from Kenya and Blair Glencorse (executive director of Accountability Lab).
- Serve as lead co-chairs between 1 October 2024 and 30 September 2025, cochaired by Dr Cielo Magno, national coordinator of the Philippine organization Bantay Kita, representing civil society.
- Serve on the two-year Governance and Leadership Subcommittee.
- Organise the 9th Global Summit OGP in Spain in 2025.
After the Summit, Spain will remain a member of the Steering Committee until 30 September 2026 and will be eligible for re-election for another three-year term.
